Anti Candida Diet

Should You Be On An Anti Candida Diet?

There has been a lot said in the media lately about anti Candida diets, but the real question you are probably asking is should you be on one?  If that is the case, then this article is for you, because in it, we look at what an anti candida diet is, and how you can benefit from one.

How Are Candida and Food Linked?

The first question most people ask is how, exactly, food and Candida are linked.  Actually, there are two ways.  The first, and best known link is in terms of treatment.  Most people know that eating foods that contain probiotics, like yogurt, can help to alleviate the symptoms of a Candida infection.

The second is the opposite.  Some foods have high levels of fungus and yeast, which can cause an overgrowth of Candida in your body, which can lead to yeast infections.  An anti Candida diet allows you to eliminate those foods from your diet, and stop fuelling the infections.

When Should You Consider an Anti Candida Diet

If you regularly suffer from yeast infections or Candida flare-ups, then you may have an overgrowth of Candida in your body.  If you keep fuelling that growth, then even after taking medication to alleviate the symptoms of a yeast infection, it will come straight back.

That is why people who are prone to yeast infections are often advised to eat an anti Candida diet for several months, while treating their yeast overgrowth.  This allows your body to get Candida growth back under control, and should stop you from getting so many infections!

How Does It Work?

If you have read this far, and you think that eating to treat Candida is something that might work for you, then the process is fairly simple.

What you need to do first is to find a list of foods that promote Candida.  These may include bread, certain cheeses, mushrooms, nuts and several other foods, as well as alcohol, caffeine and other drinks.  You will then need to eliminate those Candida causing foods from your diet for a few months.

While you are eating to treat Candida, you will probably be advised to take acidophilus – a form of beneficial bacteria that lives in your body, and fights off Candida infections.  This can be taken in liquid, powder or capsule form, or you could choose to eat yogurt, which has lots of acidophilus in it.

Keep monitoring your symptoms, and make sure that you take any anti fungal medications you are prescribed – but do not stop the diet when the medication is finished!  Keep going, so that you can keep your Candida levels as low as possible, while you build up your defences.

Whenever you find yourself suffering from periodic yeast infections again, go back to your anti Candida diet for a while, and you should find that it is an effective complementary treatment option.  The best part is it’s safe for everyone, from very young children to the elderly!
